Interested staff members are welcome to attend “Take a Different Approach in Tackling the Problem of Hazing on Your Campus" from 1-2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the PDC, Tiadaghton Room. The Web conference is presented by Magna Publications and sponsored by the Student Activities Office.
Hazing long has troubled college campuses, and higher-education professionals have spent countless hours creating educational programs to combat it. But the time has come to step away from “programming to the problem” and to apply the tools of social science in designing prevention strategies.
This seminar will challenge and empower attendees to think about hazing reduction in a new and innovative way. Participants will receive information to help them use an environmental management approach to risk/harm reduction associated with hazing activities:
New hazing data and concepts
How to apply a social science model to designing prevention and response strategies
How to conduct a four-step evaluation of their current hazing education and mitigation efforts
The presenter, Kimberly Novak, is the director for student and campus community development at Arizona State University’s Downtown Phoenix campus. She heads a team that will lead judicial affairs, student affairs risk management and crisis intervention at the new campus.
Registrations are being taken through the Workforce Development & Continuing Education offices at ext. 4775, or from the Professional Development Web site. Employees are reminded to include their college ID when registering
