[Siasat] SP urges teachers to impart moral values to students
Guntur, October 04: “We have not been ragged by seniors and we have no intention of ragging our juniors,” Nandita, a second year student of Computer Science Department of Vignan Engineering College said during an interaction with Superintendent of Police Mahesh Chandra Laddha on Wednesday.
Senior and junior students of the Anti-Ragging Committee shared their thoughts with the SP who in turn advised them to enjoy their stay on the campus and not to associate with any fan club.
“You may be fighting over the popularity of heroes, while they continue to be best of buddies. If you want to really do something, fight for a good cause,” he told the students.
Referring to sporadic incidents in Tenali, where two groups of students clashed over erecting banners, he cautioned them against associating with any fan club.
While appreciating the college management for taking pre-emptive measures to prevent incidents of ragging, the police official asked professors to devote a part of their teaching for moral values building good personalities.Action promised
Some of the students brought to the notice of the SP incidents of indecent behaviour in RTC buses plying on the college route. The SP responded immediately and said that necessary action would be taken.
Additional Superintendent of Police M. Divakar, College principal V. Vasudeva Rao and senior professors were present.

[The Hindu] NIHH clarifies
HYDERABAD: The Ali Yavar Jung National Institute for Hearing Handicapped (NIHH) has said that the ragging incident involving a physically handicapped first year B.Sc. (ASLP) student has evolved as a “disciplinary matter in the hostel rather than part of ragging.”
In response to a news item published in these columns on Monday, the institute’s Assistant Director S.G.R. Prakash, has said the “incident” was not ragging but a “dispute over a loss of book” between two students. However, the senior student was suspended for 10 days as part of disciplinary action for having “misbehaved” with her junior as concluded by a fact-finding committee.
Mr. Prakash said all precautionary measures were taken to avoid occurrence of such “untoward incidents”.
